FAQs about the application process
Most subjects not covered on this page can be found on our website.
Can transcripts arrive separately from the application packet?
Yes, transcripts arriving separate or later than your application, or after the application deadline and will not delay your application from being processed. We must receive the transcripts by February of that application year.
If I applied last year, what is still on file if I am reapplying?
We only keep your transcripts on file, and only from the previous year. If you did not apply to the program the previous year, you need to resubmit your transcripts.
Can international students apply?
International students are welcome to apply to the MFA program; however they cannot rely on financial assistance or awards from USD and must provide for financial support from non-University sources.
Do you want two of the same headshots, or two different versions?
Two of the same headshot is preferred, as the second copy is only kept in admission files.
Do I need to list my legal name?
Yes, your application will be tracked under your legal name, not your stage name.
What about letters of recommendation?
Letters of recommendation are not taken into consideration during our selection process. Once an applicant has been selected as a finalist, we will contact your references listed on your application for a personal recommendation. If you still would like to include letters of recommendation, you may do so, and they may arrive separately from the application.
Can I schedule an audition or check availability for an audition prior to you contacting me?
No. The only way to schedule an audition is to apply to the program, and wait for your application to process. Once it has been processed, we will contact you with an audition date and time. If you cannot make the time we have assigned you, we will do our best to reschedule you. Please note that there are no exceptions to this rule.
Do you accept video taped auditions, or private auditions not on the schedule?
No. Please note that there are no exceptions to this rule.
Do you participate in U/RAT auditions?
No, the only way to secure an audition is to apply directly to our program.
Are there callbacks for your audition process?
No, the entire audition process will take place during your appointment.
What is needed for auditions?
One two-minute contemporary monologue, and one two-minute classical monologue (we strongly recommend Shakespeare). The pieces do not need to be contrasting. There is no singing component to the audition.
